As a child, Halil Altintop and his twin brother Hamit would often play football on the streets of Gelsenkirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia, the town of their birth. Halil, who is of Turkish descent, is today a striker for Gelsenkirchen’s Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 and a member of the Turkish national football team. Halil is only one example of many German-Turkish success stories in North Rhine-Westphalia. Around 570,000 inhabitants with a Turkish migratory background live here and over 280 Turkish companies are based in the region, with new connections being established on a daily basis. In order to further consolidate this friendship, North Rhine-Westphalia has become the first German federal state to open its own representative office in Turkey. Stop by for a visit.
