Thanks to Dr. Oetker, every German can be an Italian pizza maker now.
In 1970, just after the introduction of chest freezers to the German
market, he brought the frozen pizza to North Rhine-Westphalia. A good
idea, since with over 250,000 tons consumed per year the frozen discs
are now Germany's favorite frozen food. Many of them are still made
at the headquarters of the traditional corporation in Bielefeld. The
company, run by the family to this day, began its success story with
the introduction of ready-to-use baking powder in 1891. And showed by
selling it in small paper packets that product development is not the
only area of innovation in North Rhine-Westphalia. In any case, the
company has the perfect test market for its products right on its
doorstep: 18 million consumers in North Rhine-Westphalia that love
new products – and frozen pizza.
